Welp, here we find our selves in a present far different than the one we imagined even 2 months ago when we made our New Year’s intentions. Between homeschooling, social distancing and trying to plan for a future that is unknown, tensions are high. I feel it, you feel it and that is why I have decided to take control where I know I can; I am making it my job- for myself, my family, and all of you - to bring the joy.
To me joy is a deep, internal feeling.
It can be shown in big ways, like running through the gates of Disneyland, or just felt in your heart, like watching your child sleep peacefully.
So this morning I decided to make a JOY LIST and have committed to including at least one item into each day.
I am a self-proclaimed schedule nerd, so to really commit to this effort, I plan on actually writing down the time of day and which item I will do. If you are more of a free spirit, fly by the seat of your pants kinda gal, I respect that! You do whatever works best for you, your routine and your commitments.
Here are the things I have on my list so far:
Listening to a podcast
Doing my nails
Taking a bath with candles
Stretching my body
Going for a walk
Coffee outside on the deck
Snuggling with my family watching a movie
If you are feeling overwhelmed, bored, anxious, frustrated or uneasy about the current Pandemic we are dealing with, I have one task for you to do that will help you regain control over how you feel day today:
Make a Joy List of your own!
This is for you and only you.
Don’t be afraid to approach this exercise with radical honesty. What makes you feel inspired or excited or silly? What fills you up with purpose? What are the moments you cherish throughout the day? What makes you feel grounded and safe?
Now, more than ever, we need to lean into these little moments because they keep us grounded in what we can control.
I love learning from you and our community. Download a shareable Joy List template for social media so you can share your Joy List and share the joy far and wide. Make sure to tag @mmwithmaggie on instagram and share your post to our Facebook group!
